  Job Description:

Communication and Outreach Analyst will report directly to the National Project Coordinator and work under overall supervision and guidance of the National Project Coordinator and UNDP Country Office Communication Team. 

Lead overall super-ii project communication and outreach under the guidance of the national project coordinator 

  • Communication of results and advocacy for enhanced municipal preparedness for urban and earthquake risks with focus on vulnerable population and enhancing risk governance for coordinated response from national to local level;
  • Carry out strategic result communication of the project targeting public, the government, and donors through preparation of project specific strategic communication plan. The tasks include generating high-quality human-interest stories, press releases, case studies, good practices and advocacy documents, including policy briefs; designing infographics and other visual items for reporting based on the data collected through the project; and effectively utilize social media outlets in disseminating key project activities;
  • Closely liaise with the UNDP Nepal country office communication unit for the contents of communication, while working independently for production of high-quality products;
  • Ensure that the ECHO component of SUPER II project website is up to date for public view;
  • Maintain communication/coordination mechanism with the Provincial Coordinator as well as the national staffs and other provincial officers, for communication and outreach related work;
  • Synchronize actions at field level between different actors within the components of this project.

Support documentation of project processes and ouputs and track project media engagement

  • Under the overall guidance of National Project Coordinator and oversight of the Provincial Coordinator, undertake responsibility for planning, implementation, management, and coordination aspects of the projects at provincial level;
  • Establish and maintain contacts with print and electronic media nationally and locally in the area where the project activities are implemented;
  • Lead in carrying out media (national/province/municipality) visits to the sites to document and report issues and good practices as an advocacy tool;
  • Daily monitoring, review and record media coverage of the portfolio and circulate to relevant authorities. Wherever possible, analyze any gap in communication for the project beneficiaries and suggest the project team for potential improvement;

Provide technical support for standardisation and quality of project outputs and coordinate with stakeholders for communication

  • Contribute to reviewing of translations, contacts with printers and other vendors to ensure timely and quality production of IEC materials and other resources.
  • Provide logistical support to information campaigns along key events or international days.
  • Maintain visual/audio archive of the project outcomes (photo, videography etc.).
  • Liaise with project team, relevant government stakeholders and agency for the development of high-
  • quality risk communication materials for the beneficiaries.
  • Lead in the production of quality Information Education and Communication (IEC) materials and other communication resources for the beneficiaries.

Monitoring, preparation of reports and documents, communication/ knowledge management and gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI)

  • Timely preparation of technical and progress reports, briefs, and other required documents such as minutes of workshops and steering committee meetings;
  • Ensure project data/information are maintained in line with project M&E framework in a disaggregated fashion;
  • Ensure integration of gender and social inclusion in overall project approach, monitoring system and reporting mechanism through tailored support for disaggregated data collection and analysis;
  • Document learning and disseminate information to wider DRR community at provincial level in coordination with project staff;
  • Work closely with Information and Database officer and Communication officer to collect and compile, reports, data, news, events, human stories, challenges, and lessons learnt to publish in periodic reports;
  • Support in integration of GEDSI in all stages of the project in coordination with GESI Focal Person of UNDP/ SUPER project;
  • Create a safe working environment by developing respectful and safe organizational culture and supporting practices;
  • Collaborates with team members, programme partners, and sub-grantees to ensure safe implementation of programmes at the community level applying Do No Harm approach;
  • Perform any other related task as per the request of the National Project Coordinator, and Programme Manager of UNDP.

The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Up to 2-years’ experience (with master’s degree) or minimum of 2 years (with bachelor’s degree) in communications, media studies, IT, journalism, international relations, international development, or any relevant field is required
  • Experience of preparation of high-quality communication and knowledge products.
  • Working experience of traditional and social media, digital marketing, multimedia (photography/videography) tools and a variety of other communication platforms.
  • Experience in preparation of lesson learnt, knowledge products focusing on urban disaster preparedness initiatives including earthquake reconstruction and recovery.
  • Demonstrated technical skills in preparation of disaster risk management/preparedness related IEC materials.
  • Demonstrated social skills of coordinating with different stakeholders and facilitating discussions including shared learning dialogues.
  • Excellent skills on preparing high quality reports, human interest stories, case studies and other knowledge products.
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Experience and knowledge of graphic design and video editing tools like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.
  • Proven experience in preparing high level visibility materials for various structural and non-structural mitigation measures
  • Familiarity with MS office.
  • Experience in Nepali typing skills. 
  • Experience and knowledge in risk communication and outreach strategies.
  • Experience and good understanding of other application for data management and project monitoring including innovative tools and technologies.

Education + Experience
  • Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in communications, media studies, IT, journalism, international relations, international development, or any relevant fields is required. or
  • A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the areas mentioned above in combination with 2 additional years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of Advanced University degree
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Nepali
